The Julian modular seating system by Vincent Van Duysen is welcoming, warm and convivial. The contrasting profile defines its rhythm, captures the gaze, guides it along the surface and reveals subtle construction details.

Julian offers depth, comfort, and compositional freedom. Designed as a family of elements that can be combined with precision, the system responds naturally to various spaces and ways of living, from compact arrangements to expansive, open layouts.

The sofa is characterized by generously deep seats and carefully engineered cushioning. The padding combines different densities to ensure elasticity and support, while integrated lumbar elements enhance long‑term comfort without altering the visual clarity of the design.

“This new sofa is composed of multiple modules, allowing for a wide range of configurations, from intimate and compact solutions to more open and generous compositions.”

Vincent Van Duysen

The seat cushion is slim and slightly recessed from the base, creating a subtle stepped effect that lightens the overall volume. Contrasting piping traces the contours of the upholstery, reinforcing the sofa’s lines and providing a unifying graphic detail across all configurations.

Julian’s modular range includes terminal and central elements, chaise longues, daybeds, islands, and newly designed armrest–coffee table modules. An optional oversized tray expands the system’s use. Generously proportioned, it can be placed on the pouf to transform it into a functional surface, supporting objects, books, or informal moments of hospitality.

Vincent Van Duysen

Vincent Van Duysen was born in 1962, in Lokeren, Belgium and graduated in architecture at the Higher Institute of Architecture Sint-Lucas, in Ghent. From 1986 to 1989 he worked in Milan and Brussels. He opened his own studio in Antwerp, in 1990 focusing on architecture and interior design. The relationship between interior design and architecture in his work is profound. Furnishings and accessories are designed with an architectural perspective that is not limited by form, but is expressed with a careful perception of interior space and its relationship to the exterior architecture. By interpreting architecture and redefining its proportions, Van Duysen creates objects of great purity and simplicity that still retain a concrete character and solid form.
