Modern, contemporary rugs with a spontaneous or sophisticated design, always lending a unique touch to enhance an interior. Just like their beds, armchairs and accessories, Molteni&C rugs do not stop at the concept, but draw their strength from refined materials and special manufacturing techniques that can bring the designer's ideas to life. For example, for Edge, designer Nicola Gallizia chose to mix wool with linen, leading to the creation of a modern rug with a soft, glossy surface and a simple, elegant central field enhanced and framed by the characteristic edges. The Palette collection, again by Nicola Gallizia, is notable for its vibrant colours (you can choose between Anthracite, Cream, Dove Grey, Rust and Taupe), which embrace and envelop; in this case the fabric is 100% tencel, a soft, smooth material that is not only durable and breathable but also eco-friendly, both in terms of its characteristics and its production process. Taking a trip to Spain, specifically the city of Oviedo, we present three contemporary rugs designed by Patricia Urquiola. Loop&Cut, made from linen and bamboo fibre, is inspired by knitting techniques, a fact that can be seen in the finish of the edging; available in Artic, Milky, Navy, Stone and Tan versions, it is hand-woven on a traditional loom. Part of the same creative idea is also recognisable in Hem, an elegant, contemporary, 100% silk rug. In this case the reference to the world of knitwear is in the raised edging, a simple yet highly evocative detail. In both designs the intention is to return the rug to its original, central role, almost an oasis in which to spend time with family or alone. Not leaving anything to chance, the Spanish designer has also created Random. This hand-knotted design is a tribute to the individuality of historic rugs. Returning to Milan, we propose an iconic rug: D.754.1, one of the pieces designed by Gio Ponti and restyled by Molteni&C. It was designed in 1954 and is produced in four-colour pony hair, with the lower section made of linen blend fabric.
