Cleo, a new design by the architect and creative director Vincent Van Duysen for Molteni&C, is a modular system consisting of various rectilinear, angular and self-standing elements that allow for a large number of compositions suitable for all kinds of living. The heart of the project is the frame, which is used for each individual component. A harmonious curvilinear shell, recalling a cosy place, which embraces seat and back without a break. The shell, upholstered in textiles or in leather, like the seat cushions, offers great comfort.

Technical Details

The possible combinations between the various upholstery materials for covering the frame and the seat cushions, can either make a contrast or emphasize the harmony of the two components. The rectangular back cushions can be placed at wilI to satisfy any requirements, guaranteeing comfort and allowing for different relaxation positions: from sitting comfortably to read a good book or spending time with loved ones, to lying down for a brief rest.

Cleo is supported by feet made of a thin layer of varnished steel, designed to make the sofa look like an object floating in the living area, thus become heart and protagonist, thanks to its easy collocation even in the centre of the room. In addition, Cleo has rectilinear single frame solutions, suitable for creating a sofa with complete and enveloping shapes.

“The sofa collection Cleo is composed of different modules that allow a great variety of compositions. Cleo is characterized by a leather or fabric shell and base bestowing a sense of fluidity upon the object. The user can choose from a variety of leathers and fabrics for the backrest and seat to add a textured contrast. It is a very organic and comfortable sofa. A sofa on which to unplug and relax after a taxing day.”

Cleo Coffee Tables

Cleo is a small domestic sculpture that derives from the professional experience of architect and creative director Vincent Van Duysen. A natural complement to the modular system of Cleo seating designed by Vincent van Duysen, it is a set of small tables marked by a geometry that recalls an ellipse. Its particular feature lies in the top, available with a new metallic finish (Galaxy), or upholstered in ecoskin in the 8 colors of the Molteni&C range. The top is thicker in the middle in order to accommodate the solid Eucalyptus, Black Oak and Sunrise Oak supporting legs, curved according to the profile of the top.

Vincent Van Duysen

Vincent Van Duysen was born in 1962, in Lokeren, Belgium and graduated in architecture at the Higher Institute of Architecture Sint-Lucas, in Ghent. From 1986 to 1989 he worked in Milan and Brussels. He opened his own studio in Antwerp, in 1990 focusing on architecture and interior design. The relationship between interior design and architecture in his work is profound. Furnishings and accessories are designed with an architectural perspective that is not limited by form, but is expressed with a careful perception of interior space and its relationship to the exterior architecture. By interpreting architecture and redefining its proportions, Van Duysen creates objects of great purity and simplicity that still retain a concrete character and solid form.
