MOLTENI&C SHANGHAI FLAGSHIP STORE

Located on the banks of the Huangpu River, the Molteni&C Shanghai Flagship Store is the largest of the brand's Flagship Stores in the world. Part of the "Golden Union Shi bo" compound on what was once an industrial heritage site comprising old factories, the grounds have transformed into a modern urban landscape, reflected in the store's raw, Brutalist-inspired architectural style. Molteni&C's Creative Director Vincent Van Duysen effortlessly plays with the building's structure, balancing functionality with the brand's renowned elegance.

The expansive two-story space covers a considerable 3,500 square meters and is a collaborative project with Domus Tiandi, one of the key players in the retail and furniture industry.

Pre-existing reinforced concrete industrial columns juxtapose modern metal accents and cultural Chinese details, creating a complementary dialogue between contemporary design and the site's industrial heritage.

Inspired by the atmosphere of a palace, Vincent Van Duysen imagined the store as a sequence of ordered rooms, where every perspective celebrates the structure's grandeur.

The flagship store is also home to a restaurant, art gallery, and UniFor Showroom. Charcoal Restaurant, the indoor-outdoor dining space is adorned with pieces from the Molteni&C Outdoor Collection, offering a serene atmosphere punctuated with both natural and designed elements. In the Art Gallery, guests can admire the works of Gio Ponti and the Heritage Collection against a striking concrete and stainless steel backdrop. Adjacent to the gallery, the 300 square meter UniFor Showroom is dedicated to architects and designers complete with office furniture and custom project solutions.
