armchairs | news

The Corsetto armchair by Cristián Mohaded is defined by containment and softness, shaped through the designer's distinctive approach to form and material. The piece draws on the tension between structure and comfort, using leather and fabric as elements that actively shape the design. Every detail contributes to a precise, tactile experience rooted in control, proportion, and restraint.

Technical Details

Crafted in a rounded, full-bodied volume, the armchair supports the body with a sense of enclosure. A leather belt rises from the base and wraps upward to the armrests, tightening the form and giving it structure. This continuous element compresses the upholstery just enough to define a corseted profile, holding the volume in place without interrupting its softness.

“Volumes soft and full, like cushions of breath, are gently pressed into form. Its form feels corseted, shaped with precision yet alive with softness, balancing restraint and generosity.”

Corsetto rests on a rigid, solid base that stabilizes the composition and offsets the generosity of the upholstered shell. The upper structure is padded according to ergonomic principles, shaped through curved lines that follow the body naturally. The seat and backrest are fully upholstered, creating a continuous surface that emphasizes comfort while maintaining a clear, controlled outline.

Material choice plays an active role in the design. Leather and fabric can be combined in contrasting or closely matched tones, allowing the armchair to shift in character depending on context. Upholstered in fabrics and leathers from the Molteni&C collection, Corsetto remains consistent in form while offering flexibility in expression.
