BRUCOLI LIGHTHOUSE, ITALY
At the tip of a promontory that harbors the ancient seafaring village of Brucoli, Italy, right next to the fifteenth-century Aragonese castle of Queen Giovanna, there is a unique site redolent of sea salt, sunshine and Sicily itself: the Brucoli Lighthouse. The conservative restoration and conversion project were carried out by Itinera Studio Associato, who paid special attention to the use of environmentally responsible materials and technologies. The interiors were furnished by Molteni&C.
The Brucoli Lighthouse, built in 1911, stands at the gates of the Unesco World Heritage Site of Val di Noto. It is situated on a peninsula between the Ionian sea and the Porcaia river. The “genius loci” represented a unique opportunity and a strong stimulus to plan a conservative restoration and conversion of the building into a lighthouse accommodation for cultural and tourism purposes.
A transformation in keeping with the landscape and the environment, which, in a coastal context of this kind, stands out in all its fragile beauty.
The interiors, defined by contemporary spaces, are harmoniously furnished with iconic pieces from the Molteni&C collections, including products such as the D.151.4 armchairs and D.552.2 coffee tables designed by Gio Ponti, the Attico and Domino tables designed by Nicola Gallizia, the Pass-Word bookcase by Dante Bonuccelli, the Fulham bed by Rodolfo Dordoni and the 909 chest of drawers by Luca Meda.

Nautical furnishings had long been a source of fascination for Gio Ponti when he was commissioned to design an armchair for four ocean liners and two cruises between 1949–1951: the Conte Grande, the Africa, the Oceania, the Conte Biancamano, the Andrea Doria and the Giulio Cesare. His creation, D.151.4, appeared on each, with slight variations in design to match the ship’s interior. This piece captures the spirit of refined travel, blending timeless style with thoughtful ergonomics.
The D.552.2 small table captures Gio Ponti’s architectural genius through its elegant balance of materials and proportions. Designed originally in 1952, this piece embodies Ponti's architectural fantasy, a virtuoso display of spans, an acrobatic feat of proportions, a criss-cross of joints.
Attico by Nicola Gallizia is a collection of coffee tables that embodies a distinctly architectural spirit. Designed as versatile companions to contemporary living, these tables balance clarity of form with distinctive finishes and materials, offering a new way to define and experience the domestic landscape.
The Fulham bed, named after the vibrant street at the heart of London, reflects Rodolfo Dordoni’s vision of understated elegance and practical refinement. This bed design's inviting proportions and carefully considered details create a space designed for relaxation, reflection, and restorative sleep.
