La Mano — the Hand — was born of a creative exchange of letters between Gio Ponti and silversmith Lino Sabattini, where in a simple sketch of a hand by Ponti was answered by a silver hand sculpture by Sabattini.
Formed from a single curved, stainless-steel sheet, this six-fingered hand captures Gio Ponti’s signature sense of irony and creative depth. Simultaneously whimsical and functional, the piece doubles as a sculptural statement and a jewelry holder. A celebration of craftsmanship and creative synergy, La Mano reaffirms Ponti’s belief that art is the most enduring element of design.

In order to maintain the aesthetic characteristics of these finishes over time and avoid rust, regular, methodical and meticulous cleaning is necessary. For everyday maintenance, dust with a soft dry cloth. For greasy oily marks (fingerprints) we advise cleaning the surfaces with normal liquid detergents for glass. Products containing solvents and/or alcohol and hard fibre cloths (linen and synthetics) should be avoided, as they could ruin and/or scratch surfaces. Require monthly maintenance with specific metal cleaning/polishing products.

LA MANO
La Mano di Gio Ponti nasce da una serie di giocosi scambi di lettere con l’orafo Lino Sabbatini, che realizzò l’oggetto a partire dal disegno di Ponti raffigurante una mano a sei dita. Ciò che inizialmente era uno scherzo si trasformò in una delle creazioni più amate dell’architetto. Iconica e sorprendente, La Mano esprime spirito irriverente e carattere inconfondibile.

Realizzata a partire da un’unica lamina curva in acciaio inossidabile, questa singolare mano a sei dita esprime tutta l’ironia e la profondità creativa che contraddistinguono il lavoro di Gio Ponti. Ironica e al tempo stesso funzionale, La Mano è insieme un oggetto scultoreo e un raffinato porta-gioielli.
